The universe ofAvatar is abundant. James Cameron imagined a fauna, a flora, customs, and even a language for his planet Pandora, and the details are numerous. This is why books on this universe are essential to better understand it. There are several, very complete, in the form of encyclopedias. A first book was released in 2009, on the occasion of the release of the first movie,"Avatar: the Guide to Pandora", published by Huginn&Muginn. There are very rich explanations on the fauna and flora discovered in the first film, but also the characters, the functioning of the customs of the people of the forest, their physiology, etc. Many of these details are not found in the film and perfectly complete its viewing. All this is accompanied by beautiful illustrations.
Avatar: The Pandora Guide, 128 pages, 19,95€.
For the release of The Way of Water, Huginn&Muninn has published two books. The first, All the Art of Avatar: The Way of Water, is more of an artbook than an encyclopedia. It documents the making of the film step by step with texts explaining the novelties, the aesthetic choices and the sets of the film. But most of all, it offers a tremendous amount of sketches, preparatory drawings, and illustrations that trace the conception of the visual universe of the film. No detail is left out throughout the 258 pages of this beautiful book, essential for all fans of the saga. Just like in the movie, these illustrations are absolutely breathtaking.
All the art of Avatar: The Way of Water, 258 pages, 39,95€.
The second book is a more classic encyclopedia. "Avatar, The Way of Water: The Illustrated Encyclopedia" details all the elements found in the film. Once again, it is very complete and will allow you to learn everything about the universe created by James Cameron. The whole thing is so formidably well documented that one would almost believe that all the information available comes from the real world.
Avatar, The Way of Water: The Illustrated Encyclopedia, 130 pages, €25.90
It counts a lot in the immersion throughoutAvatar and its sequel, the music of the films, composed by James Horner in the first part and Simon Franglen in the second is a joy for the ears. The soundtrack of The Way of Water is already available on all streaming platforms, a good way to keep the movie alive in your mind.
Avatar has spawned many derivative products. And if we are still waiting for the video game Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora, fans can always fall back on the first comic book adapted from the universe to be released in France: The Fate of Tsu'Tey. The first volume of this comic book series was released in November by Delcourt. It focuses on the character of Tsu'Tey, seen in the first movie, the son of the leader of the Omaticaya clan, in which Jake Sully arrives.
