Director, editor and producer Paulo Carneiro will present his new film, Savanna and the mountain, at the Cannes Film Festival 2024. The documentary has been selected for the Quinzaine des Cinéastes 2024, one of the parallel selections of this not-to-be-missed event in the world of cinema.
After the short film Water to Tabato in 2014 and his first feature-length documentary in 2018, Bostofrio où le ciel rejoint la Terre, here's the Portuguese director back with a documentary about his home country that follows the struggle of villagers fighting against the government that wants to extract lithium from their land.
Quinzaine des Cinéastes review: "Once upon a time, there was a revolution in a small Portuguese village. Savana e a montanha is a hybrid documentary in which villagers stage their own struggle - still going on today - against a government plan to extract lithium that threatens their land. It's a generous and funny film of resistance, a ballad in song, a rural western not unlike the cinema of Moullet or Guiraudie."
