Directed by Eran Riklis, Reading Lolita inTehran adapts Azar Nafisi's autobiographical novel, published in 2003 and now a worldwide bestseller. The drama stars Golshifteh Farahani, Zar Amir Ebrahimi and Mina Kavani, three emblematic actresses of the Iranian diaspora, in a story centered on cultural resistance within an authoritarian regime. The plot follows a literature professor in Tehran, who organizes clandestine courses devoted to banned Western works, in the midst of rising religious fundamentalism.
The work tackles powerful themes such as freedom of expression, female resilience, and the transformative power of literature in a tense political context.
