A dozen films were added to the official selection of the Cannes Film Festival 2024 on April 22. Among them is Tudor Giurgiu's Nasty, which will be unveiled in a special screening at this 77th edition.
With this new documentary, the Romanian director - accompanied by Cristian Pascariu and Tudor D. Popescu - revisits the life, work and legacy of former Romanian professional tennis player Ilie Năstase.
According to IMDb, "1972 marked a turning point in Ilie Năstase's career: he won his first US Open, while reaching the Wimbledon and Davis Cup finals. Moving back and forth through time, featuring stunning archive footage and exclusive interviews with top athletes, the documentary explores Năstase's highs and lows, the controversies that surrounded him and the lasting impact he had on the tennis world. Lovable, charming and generous, yet temperamental, arrogant and obscene, Mr. Nice'n'Nasty upended the sport's old-fashioned etiquette in the '70s, becoming its first rebellious rock star."
