Directed by Mark Waters, known for his hit comedies such as Lolita malgré moi, Vampire Academy is an adaptation of Richelle Mead's popular series of novels. The film, scripted by Daniel Waters, reunites Zoey Deutch (The Politician), Lucy Fry(Bright), and Sarah Hyland(Modern Family) in a story that blends action, fantasy and romance in a setting where vampires and guardians coexist with humans.
Rose Hathaway (Zoey Deutch) is a Dhampir, half-human half-vampire, trained to protect the Moroi, mortal vampires with magical powers. Her best friend, Lissa Dragomir (Lucy Fry), is a Moroi princess and the last survivor of her royal line. The two friends have always been inseparable, but after running away from their academy, they are forcibly returned to Saint Vladimir, a specialized school for Moroi and their guardians. For their act of running away, Rose is now closely watched by Dimitri Belikov (Danila Kozlovsky), a strict and fearsome mentor, charged with perfecting her training as a guardian.
However, life at the academy quickly becomes complicated: Rose struggles with her growing feelings for Dimitri, while Lissa, reluctant to embrace her royal role, must contend with enemies who seek to destroy her bloodline. The two friends will have to join forces to foil the plots being hatched in the shadows and protect what is dearest to them.
Vampire Academy is aimed at young adults and fantasy fans who enjoy stories combining action, romance and supernatural intrigue.
