Attention horror game fans! The Dark Pictures: The Devil in Me, narrative horror developed by Bandai Namco, will be released on PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One and Xbox Series on November 18, 2022. We've tested it, and we'll tell you all about it!

The Dark Pictures franchise is going strong! After Man of Medan in 2019, Little Hope in 2020 and House of Ashes in 2021, Bandai Namco is releasing a new opus in the saga on November 18, 2022, The Devil in Me, on PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One and Xbox Series. Developed by Supermassive Games, the fathers ofUntil Dawn, the game is inspired by a true story - that of the very first serial killer in 19th-century Great Britain, the very man who led to the creation of the word "serial killer".

Synopsis of The Dark Pictures - The Devil in Me:

Here's the pitch for this adventure: "A team of documentary filmmakers receives a mysterious invitation to visit a replica of serial killer H. H. Holmes. An opportunity almost too good to be true, at a time when they are desperately seeking to regain public interest. The hotel seems the ideal setting for their next episode, but it has a few surprises in store. The team soon discovers that they are being watched, manipulated, and that there's a lot more at stake than just their ratings!".

Our review of The Dark Pictures - The Devil in Me :

The Dark Pictures: The Devil in Me is just like the preview we gave last September. The story is well-written and polished, and the gameplay is simple and effective. The relatively simple puzzles only serve to highlight the story and the game's ultra-creepy atmosphere, plunging you into a real horror movie, with jumpscares to boot. Fans of the Saw saga should love this game...

But players who aren't too keen on horror films need rest assured: the jumpscares, though numerous, don't hinder your progress or your desire to play. They're well-balanced and gripping enough to make you want to keep on discovering the adventures of the film crew in the heart of the murder hotel!

In terms of gameplay, we appreciate the freer movement than in previous installments, with real puzzles that should keep you thinking for a while. Note that you can also run and climb, as well as manage an inventory, bringing the gameplay up to date with previous games. The only downside, however, is that we'd have preferred faster, smoother movement, but the slowness, which is deliberate, is only there to better immerse the player in the atmosphere.

A narrative game to put under the Christmas tree, for all fans of the genre, but also for those wishing to learn about horror games. Grab your joysticks!
