Gamescom 2024 was the opportunity for Supermassive Games, the studio renowned for its iconic titles such as Until Dawn and The Quarry, to unveil its brand new"Dark Pictures"-stamped project: Directive 8020. This new opus will plunge players into a terrifying sci-fi universe, where survival in space is at the heart of the plot. Scheduled for release in 2025, Directive 8020 will be available on PC (via Steam), PS5 and Xbox Series.
"Earth is dying, and humanity has its back to the wall. Located 12 light-years away, Tau Ceti f offers a last glimmer of hope... but when the colonial ship Cassiopeia crash-lands on the planet, the crew quickly realize they're not alone. Pursued by an alien organism capable of mimicking its prey, the Cassiopeia astronauts will have to outwit their predators. To survive, however, they will have to face the ultimate dilemma and risk the lives of all Earthlings. In space, death can take many forms".
Directive 8020 's gameplay features an innovative approach to cinematic horror. Using the powerful Unreal Engine 5, the game introduces new stealth mechanics and real-time alien threats, adding constant tension to survival sequences. Players will embody astronaut Young, played by Hollywood actress Lashana Lynch(James Bond, Captain Marvel...), on a desperate mission to save humanity. Faced with an alien organism capable of mimicking its prey, trust will be a luxury, forcing players to navigate with caution and make crucial decisions to survive.
This new opus marks a real leap forward for the Dark Pictures franchise. The game also features a strong narrative, where the player's choices will have significant consequences. The story takes place aboard the Cassiopeia, a colonial ship en route to Tau Ceti f, a planet 12 light-years from Earth. After a crash on this mysterious planet, the crew find themselves confronted with deadly alien threats, making every moment of the game crucial to survival.
Directive 8020 aims to offer players an intense survival experience where the line between human and inhuman becomes dangerously blurred. In the meantime, we're back in the Dark Pictures saga with The Devil in Me. So get set!
