Review
Captain Marvel is an interesting feature film in its structure, playing with intelligence on flashbacks and moving away from the typical superhero movies. Brie Larson, Oscar winner in 2016 for Room, brilliantly plays Carol Danvers, a half-terran, half-Kree soldier who has lost her memory and is trying to discover who she is. A heroine who moves away from feminist shackles to impose her own style, free from patriarchy. And a strong film in its message, with several issues evoked: the fate of refugees or the one on differences and their acceptance.
We particularly like the acting of the actress who has taken on the character rather well despite a slight fumbling at the beginning of the film. We also appreciate the humor, always arriving at the right time, with colorful characters, like Samuel L. Jackson, in a hilarious and younger version of Nick Fury, director of SHIELD, and who pulls the film up. Special mention to Ben Mendelsson as Talos, leader of the Skrulls, who succeeds in making us love the character.
On the technical side, it's almost a flawless film: the quality of the special effects is striking, especially the digital rejuvenation of Samuel L. Jackson and Clark Gregg, but some fight scenes and some characters like the cat, Goose, remind us that there is still a lot of work to be done on that side. We finish with the vibrant tribute to Stan Lee, during the credits at the beginning of the film, rather touching.
After an accident, Carol Danvers, a fighter pilot, becomes one of the most powerful heroines who ever existed after the Earth has found itself in the center of a galactic conflict between two alien races, the Kree and the Skrulls. She finds herself at the heart of S.H.I.E.L.D., a secret organization led by Nick Fury, and must save the world in the 90s before her confrontation with Thanos in Avengers 4.
