The game was unveiled in March 2023, for a release initially scheduled for September of the same year. Then the delays began to pile up. The game was repeatedly postponed, before being definitively cancelled on June 17, 2024. Paradox Interactive has abandoned its life simulation game project, Life by You.
This title presented itself as a serious competitor to the Sims franchise, which has reigned supreme in the field of life simulation games for over 20 years.
In a previous trailer, Life by Youunveiled an open-world game, with fully customizable characters and buildings, a game experience that can be modulated according to our desires, and DLC planned to enrich the content...
This ambitious project will therefore not see the light of day. In a statement posted on Paradox Interactive's official website, the company's deputy director, Mattias Lilja, explains: " We have decided to cancel the release of our highly anticipated life simulator, Life by You. This decision was incredibly difficult to make and represents a clear failure on Paradox's part to meet our expectations as well as those of the community. "
In another statement, Paradox Interactive CEO Fredrik Wester admits: " For a long time, we had high hopes for Life by You and the potential we saw in it, but it's now clear that the game won't be able to meet our expectations. A version that would satisfy us is too far away [dans], and so we're taking the difficult decision to cancel the release. "
Because improving the game would require too much time and resources, Paradox Interactive has halted development of Life by You.
For Paradox Interactive, Life by You is yet another failure during this difficult period: its previous title, Cities: Skylines II, was not as successful as hoped, and Prison Architect II has been postponed. The future looks uncertain for the Swedish game publisher.
