Black Myth: Wukong, developed by the Game Science studio, has been available on PC and PS5 since August 20, 2024. An unprecedented dive into a title inspired by Chinese mythology, and already considered a worthy heir to Elden Ring and Sekiro. We've tested it, and we'll tell you all about it!

Black Myth: Wukong, a title developed by the Game Science studio, showed itself off at Summer Game Fest with an oniony gameplay trailer. The game has been available on PC and PS5 since August 20, 2024. An Xbox version is still planned, but will require a little more time to perfect.

Inspired by the mythical character of Sun Wukong from the classic Chinese novel Peregrination to the West, the game promises an epic adventure in a rich, immersive universe. The game is characterized by action phases and the possibility of customizing the hero's equipment, thus influencing his strengths and weaknesses. This feature adds a strategic dimension to the game, where the player will have to skillfully navigate between monsters, taking into account his level and equipment. This innovative approach promises to enrich the gaming experience, while immersing players in a fascinating Chinese mythology as yet unexplored in the videogame universe.

Our review of Black Myth Wukong :

What do we think of Black Myth: Wukong...? To tell you the truth, we waited a while before buying the game, as we're not very keen on Souls-like games (even if the software isn't one in the true sense of the word, but"a combination of several genres", as our colleagues at Jeuxactu.com put it), but we weren't disappointed.

Graphically speaking, there's nothing to complain about: it's very beautiful and highly detailed, without overdoing it. The game is pleasant to play, and the cinematics are particularly beautiful. As for the gameplay, although it's relatively easy to get to grips with, it's the difficulty level that put us off a little, as it's quite difficult - a bit like Elden Ring, but not quite as difficult.

Black Myth: Wukong offers a game in the vein of Souls like, but more accessible, allowing neophytes who want to try their hand at the genre (although it's not a Souls like game, strictly speaking, even if it looks a lot like one) to progress through the adventure without great frustration. Yes, there are bosses you'll have to face several times before defeating, but the satisfaction is there once the task has been accomplished.

Levelling is an important part of this, and helps a great deal in the battle against enemies. And that's the game's only drawback: there aren't many enemies (well, not enough...) upstream of the bosses, in each zone, so you can go straight to the right level to face them. Most of these areas will have to be traversed countless times to reach the right level to defeat the boss (a must if you want to continue the adventure, don't you think?). It's easy to go round in circles, and it gets pretty tedious.

But that doesn't stop Black Myth: Wukong from being a good, even addictive game, thanks to a captivating universe inspired by Chinese mythology and a beautiful AD. If you're a fan of difficulty, this is the game for you! For the rest of you, go for it if you're curious... But you'll get the hang of it. All you have to do is make up your own mind!
