The successful Life is Strange saga expands with an unexpected new opus, unveiled by Square Enix on June 9, 2024. In a trailer, we discover Life is Strange: Double Exposure, a brand-new adventure for Max Caulfield to be experienced on PS5, Xbox Series and PC from this October 29, 2024, and on Nintendo Switch from November 19, 2024.
Developed by Deck Nine Games, this game reconnects us with the heroine of the very first episode in the Life is Strange series. A few years on, Max is now an adult with even stronger powers... But will she use them for good?
" Max Caulfield, resident photographer at the prestigious Caledon University, discovers the lifeless body of her new best friend, Safi. She's been murdered. Max tries to save her by rewinding time, using a power she hasn't used in a long time. Then she opens a portal to a parallel world in which Safi is alive... and still in danger! Max realizes that the killer is about to strike again... in both realities. Only she can move between the two realities to solve and prevent this murder! "
A murder, a culprit in the wilderness, and a healthy dose of the supernatural: the Life is Strange saga is back with a promising title that should please fans.
This opus is being developed by Deck Nine Games, who had already given us Life is Strange: Before the storm, a spin-off centered on Chloé, Max Caulfield's friend in the very first title in the series. The studio also developed Life is Strange: True Colors, the fifth game in the franchise, and the third opus in the main saga. So we can only hope that this new game will be just as well crafted and exciting as its predecessors!
Our verdict:
Life is Strange Double Exposure once again takes us into the artistic and poetic world of the Saga. In this new opus, we identify with the complexity of human feelings, oscillating between suspended, comforting moments and chilling, irremediable reversals of fortune. The game captures the unpredictability of life's vagaries and reactions, through blows of fate set against a backdrop of mystery over which the supernatural eventually takes over. We particularly commend the script, which takes the time to build to a crescendo with references to previous opuses, and quickly sets the tone for the adventure. Warning: if you haven't played the previous games, you may have the impression that you've only half grasped certain scenes, although some contextual elements may help you recall and understand the scenario. If you're not familiar with the Life is Strange universe, we strongly recommend that you play the first installment.
Can't wait to dive back into these supernatural investigations?
