The Nintendo Switch 2 is soon to arrive on the video game market, gradually replacing its predecessor, which has sold 150 million units in eight years. During this time, the Switch has built up an impressive catalog of games, and has enjoyed numerous successes, notably with The Legend of Zelda, Animal Crossing, Super Mario, Bayonetta...
In June 2025, the Switch 2 takes over, but it doesn't arrive alone. For its launch, Nintendo has prepared two exclusive games for the new console, and several ports from the old console to the new one.
These ports should enable players to enjoy the games they've already purchased, while benefiting from an update and enhancement, to take advantage of the Switch 2's capabilities. Nintendo has warned that some of these enhancements will come at a price. However, there is a short list of games that will benefit from this update free of charge.
At a special video conference, Nintendo revealed that dozens of games will be transferable from Switch 1 to 2. However, many of these ports will be chargeable, even if you've already purchased the game. So to get the games that will have"Nintendo Switch 2 Edition" in their title, you'll have to shell out a few extra euros. " If you already own the original Nintendo Switch game in physical or digital version, you can upgrade it to the Nintendo Switch 2 Edition version by purchasing the corresponding upgrade," says Nintendo on its site.
Rest assured, this does not apply to all games: those listed below should be able to be transferred and upgraded free of charge, according to the Japanese company.
To get these free updates for your games, connect to the Internet from your Switch 2, and download the available updates.
