Escape game Le Portail at Secret Jeegs: our test of the X-Files escape game

Fancy an escape game that's a cross between Alien, X-Files and Rencontre du Troisième Type? Let's head for Secret Jeegs, an escape game store located in Draveil (in the former town hall, to be precise), Essonne. This is where you'll find Le Portail, a room that plunges you into a secret laboratory, where you'll have to reactivate a space portal leading to an alien planet that you'll have to destroy (the creatures are belligerent, apparently...).

"Months of hard work, testing and study have enabled us to assemble an intergalactic portal that should allow us to travel beyond our solar system. We have almost succeeded in stabilizing the portal's power system, but have encountered anomalies and the portal sometimes opens without our intervention, and these episodes are very dangerous. Our previous team didn't get to the security bunker in time during the last alert and disappeared from the Earth's surface. Now the situation is serious: the observatory is no longer able to repel all the attacks and we're about to be overwhelmed. A team is currently on a mission to recover the energy core in the UFO and send it to you: our only solution to put an end to this once and for all is to succeed in activating the Portal using the energy of this core. As you can see, we haven't heard from the previous team, so you're our last hope! And as I often say: "as long as there's life, there's hope!" so come back soon... and alive!!!".

Note that the adventure is linked to all the others on offer in the store, and that objects from other rooms will be sent to you via a freight elevator by other teams experimenting with the other games. For this adventure, you'll have one hour to solve the riddles and blow up the hostile planet by opening the portal.

A room we were able to test on a Saturday afternoon. On arrival, you're greeted by the teams who take you to the briefing room to explain the concept. Then it's up to you... You'll be taken upstairs to a larger-than-life laboratory, where a host of puzzles await you.

The puzzles aren't overly complicated, but they'll still give you a hard time. Don't take our word for it: when we tell you to go to the safe zone, we don't mean the area marked out on the floor, but rather the panic room located at the entrance, after the safety lock... Apart from that, there's nothing very tricky about it: just communicate a lot with your team, and search everywhere as usual (if you read us and play escape games regularly, you'll know what we mean...) and listen carefully to the clues you're given.

As for the decor, it's all about immersion, and it really works! The mezzanine also helps, as does the high ceiling. And you don't need a lot of decor to feel like you're in a lab: everything is sufficient here, without overload, making the experience more real. As for the alien planet (yes, you're going to have to go through the portal...), its decor is very busy and fits in well with the idea of an alien planet, in Stranger Things mode. And don't forget your bomb when you go through the portal (yes, we forgot it...).

All in all, it's a beautiful, immersive room that will delight fans of alien films. And once the adventure's over, we'll be off to book the other experiences to discover the history of the site as a whole... All you have to do is make up your own mind!
