The French government wishes to prevent the new Covid-19 British strain from arriving in France. This Saturday January 9, 2021, the Ministry of Sports highly recommends Top 14 clubs – the top French rugby competition – to postpone the Heineken Champions and Challenge Cups games planned on January 16 and 23, 2021 against British clubs.
In a release sent to clubs, the government urges the National Rugby League (LNR) to “postpone the next matches including French clubs (against British clubs), in accordance with the wishes expressed by several professional French rugby clubs over the last few days”. The main threat the executive wishes to prevent is obviously the risk of spreading the new Covid-19 variant from the United-Kingdom.
