Opened in 1887 under the name of "Grands bains parisiens", the Piscine Oberkampf is the work of architect Auguste Perrin and the last survivor of a series of bathing establishments created during the hygienist impetus of the last decades of the 19th century. After a bitter battle, the 11th arrondissement swimming pool was listed as a Monument Historique in 2023 for its magnificent stained-glass windows by glass painter Jean-Baptiste Anglade, its luminous vault covering the entire pool and its Art Deco style.
In 2022, the entire neighborhood rallied against the pool's closure, as it was to be demolished to make way for a housing development. After a petition from local residents, this astonishing 17m L-shaped pool is now untouchable, with its natural light illuminating the space in an exceptional way, its cabins and stained glass windows in the vestibule illustrating water carriers, the last testimony to a piece of the capital's history.
The facility offers a range of activities for all ages and levels. Swimming lessons are available for beginners and advanced swimmers alike, as well as aquagym sessions for those wishing to combine fitness with the pleasures of the water. The pool is also open to freestyle swimmers, with time slots available for individuals. It is also possible to privatize the space for special events, such as film shoots or photo shoots.
