Sigur Rós’ last show took place in 2017. They were at home, in Iceland. Since then, the Icelandic band went under the radar following the raping charges made against drummer Orri Páll Dýrason. The musician also announced he was leaving the Iceland band in October 2018. The trio became a duo including the two founding members of Sigur Rós, namely Jón Þór Birgisson – aka Jónsi – and Georg Hólm. A configuration that did not prevent the band to continue their creative process.
Sigur Rós is actually in the middle of the preparation of a new album, highly expected by fans. We must say the band’s last studio album was released in 2013, and was called “Kveikur”. Before that, the band created in 1994 in Reykjavik released “Valtari” (2012), “Takk…” (2005) without forgetting the flawless “()” (2022) and “Agaetis Byrjun” (1999); two albums enabling the band to make itself a name.
In addition to this new record expected for soon, Sigur Rós has also announced a world tour to kick off this spring in America.
For this return, Jónsi and Georg Hólm will be joined by former member Kjartan Sveinsson. The musician left the band in 2013 to focus on different projects. Note that Kjartan Sveinsson also joined the band in the studio to record their upcoming disc.
This new Sigur Rós tour is to start on April 30 at the Vaivén Festival in Morelos, Mexico, and will continue in Canada and the United States until May before wrapping up with two shows on June 17 and 18 at the New York Beacon Theater.
But this tour will travel the world. Therefore, Sigur Rós will perform in Europe this Fall for 28 shows to take place in Lisbon, Barcelona, Vienna, Prague, Berlin, Helsinki, Stockholm, Oslo, Amsterdam, Brussels, London, Glasgow, Dublin, as well as their home, Reykjavik.
Meet the Icelandic band in Paris, for their only show in France on Friday November 4 and Saturday 5, 2022 at the Zénith de La Villette.
