At the 2021 edition ofEurovision, France narrowly missed the first step of the podium with the song " Voilà " performed by the artist Barbara Pravi. Unfortunately, the singer was beaten by the Italian group Måneskin. A second place that has made many disappointed in the competition. It must be said that the last time France won the Eurovision Song Contest was in 1977. Since its first participation in Eurovision, that is to say since the beginning of the creation of the contest, France came first in the votes five times. The first victory dates back to 1958. That year, André Claveau won all the votes with his song " Dors, mon amour ".
It will not take long to see France again crowned, since the country climbs again on the first step of the podium in 1960, thanks to Jacqueline Boyer who interprets the song " Tom Pillibi ". And the success even exceeds the borders of the contest, since the song becomes a real hit in several European countries including Germany, the United Kingdom and Sweden.
Two years later, in 1962, new consecration with the song " Un premier amour ", interpreted by Isabelle Aubret.
The 60's seemed to be a success for France, as the country won its 4th victory in 1969 with the song " Un jour, un enfant ", interpreted by Frida Boccara. In fact, that year, France was not the only winner of Eurovision because the vote ended in a tie, between Spain, France, the Netherlands and the United Kingdom. Also, the four countries were declared winners.
Finally, the last and 5th French victory goes back to 1977. That year, Marie Myriam swept everything in her path with the hit " L'Oiseau et l'Enfant ".
Often unlucky, France came second in the contest five times (in 1957, 1976, 1990, 1991 and 2021) and third seven times (in 1959, 1965, 1967, 1968, 1978, 1979 and 1981). France is also the participating country to have most often finished in third and fourth place!
