There were 15 of them. 15 countries competing in the first Eurovision semi-final on Tuesday, May 7, 2024 . They all had one and the same goal: to secure their place in the final of the song contest alongside France, Italy, Spain, Germany and the UK. These countries, which make up the famous Eurovision Big 5 - with Sweden added this year - are automatically qualified and don't need to go through the dreaded semi-final stage.
While many are eagerly awaiting the grand final of the Eurovision Song Contest, scheduled for Saturday May 11, 2024, others can't wait to find out who the finalists are for this 68th edition of Eurovision.
The first of the two semi-finals was broadcast live this Tuesday evening on France 4 and on the competition's Youtube page. 15 countries competed: Cyprus, Serbia, Lithuania, Ireland, Ukraine, Poland, Croatia, Iceland, Slovenia, Finland, Moldavia, Azerbaijan, Australia, Portugal and Luxembourg. At the end of the evening, only 10 countries were selected for the grand final. Let's find out!
Please note that the Eurovision semi-finals take place in two phases, with a first selection on May 7, and a second scheduled for May 9. At the end of these two semi-finals, we'll know which countries have been selected for the Grand Final on May 11. 6 countries have already qualified for the final stage.

The second semi-final is scheduled for Thursday, May 9 at 9:00 pm, and will feature 16 competing countries, including Malta, Albania, Greece, Switzerland, the Czech Republic, Austria, Armenia, Denmark, Latvia, San Marino, Georgia, Belgium, Estonia, Israel, Norway and the Netherlands.
