The MTV EMA (Europe Music Awards) ceremony was due to be held in Paris this autumn, more precisely at the Parc des Expositions de Paris Nord Villepinte on Sunday November 5, 2023, to reward the best European artists of the year. Unfortunately, the organizers decided to cancel the ceremony for security reasons.

The MTV EMA - Europe Music Awards - a ceremony which, every year since 1994, has rewarded the best video clips and artists of the year who have dominated the cats in Europe, were to be held in Paris for the second time in their history, following the 1995 edition. The 30th edition of the MTV EMAs was scheduled to take place at the Parc des Expositions de Paris Nord Villepinte on Sunday November 5, 2023.

However, on October 19, just as the musical line-up for the evening had been announced and ticket sales were due to open on Thursday at 12pm, the organizers announced the cancellation of the ceremony due to the security situation. This is what several media are reporting, including Deadline.

"Given the uncertainty of world events, we have decided not to host the MTV EMAs 2023 as a precautionary measure towards the thousands of employees, team members, artists, fans and partners who travel from all corners of the globe to bring the show to life," a spokesperson for Paramount - organizer of the event - told US webzine Deadline.

"As we watch the devastating events unfolding in Israel and Gaza, it doesn't seem like the right time for a celebration. With thousands of lives already lost, this is a time of mourning," the spokesperson added. The MTV EMAs are due to return in November 2024.

A host of prestigious artists were expected to perform at the ceremony in the Paris region, including David Guetta, Manuel Turizo, Rema, Reneé Rapp, Jung Kook, Ozuna, Sabrina Carpenter, Anne-Marie, Coi Leray and Jared Leto and his brother's band, Thirty Seconds to Mars!

Nominated artists included Aya Nakamura, Bigflo & Oli, Ninho, Louane, Doja Cat, Olivia Rodrigo, Taylor Swift, SZA, Ed Sheeran, Dua Lipa, Stray Kids, aespa and the Jonas Brothers.

The MTV EMAs, which are also broadcast live on MTV, have already rewarded several French artists. Indeed, in the early 2000s, the ceremony chose to award prizes by country. In 2003 and 2005, the group Kyo was named best French artist. After him, Jenifer, Superbus, Diam's, Shaka Ponk, Kendji Girac, M Pokora, Amel Bent, Amir and Orelsan also received the award. David Guetta has won several awards in the electro category. Justice's music videos have also won awards.
