Would you like to take a trip to Canada's Far North, thanks to the power of music alone? Then don't missElisapie 's new concert in Paris in 2024.
The Inuk artist, who already enchanted us with the sublime opus"The Ballad of the Runaway Girl", released in 2018, has returned to the stores with the release of a new album in September 2023. The album will take her on the road in Canada and France. After several performances this autumn in France (Saint-Malo, Brest, Paris and Nantes), Elisapie is preparing her return to France with a few dates only scheduled in Annecy, Cenon and Figeac. The inuk artist also plans to return to the capital with a not-to-be-missed show on Tuesday April 2, 2024 at the Café de la Danse.
Too rare in France, the Inuk artist - born in Salluit, Nunavik - will be back on stage to defend her new fourth solo opus. Called"Inuktitut", it is a record of cover versions, sung exclusively in Inuktitut, her mother tongue. In all, Elisapie has chosen to cover no fewer than 10 songs, all of which are considered rock and pop classics from the 60s to the 90s.
"Inuktitut" features covers of Led Zeppelin, Pink Floyd, Fleetwood Mac, Queen, Blondie and Cindy Lauper, as evidenced by this surprisingly successful version of the global hit " Time After Time ", renamed " Taimangalimaaq ".
Another cover, as audacious as it is sublime? " The Unforgiven " by American thrash metal band Metallica.
In a stripped-down version (banjo, percussion, qilaut...), where we're happy to listen to the"Katajjaq", the famous Inuit throat song, Elisapie touches us to the core. In a post published on her social networks on June 27, Elisapie revealed that she had interviewed Metallica guitarist Kirk Hammett when she was just 15 and working for TNI, the first Inuit television and radio company. It was a defining moment for the young girl, who at the time was listening to " The Unforgiven " with her friends, " trying to forget the heaviness, as if this song told the story of Inuit men and the repression they suffered ".
Renamed in Inuktitut " Isumagijunnaitaungituq ",Elisapie 's sublime cover seems to have caught the eye of Metallica and Lars Ulrich, the band's drummer, as they didn't hesitate to share a story on Instagram about the track!
With"Inuktitut", Elisapie makes her language and culture resonate beyond the borders of the Inuit territory. To discover this talented artist, a true ambassador of Inuk culture, come to the Café de la Danse on April 2, 2024.
