After years of absence in Paris, Sheryl Crow made her grand return to theOlympia stage for a one-off date on June 27. This was an opportunity for long-time fans to hear the greatest hits of theAmerican artist who has sold 35 million albums worldwide and was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame last November.
But this unique concert in the capital's legendary venue was also an opportunity for the singer, songwriter and multi-instrumentalist to present a few tracks from her brand-new album Evolution, released on March 29, 2024 and featuring the singles Alarm Clock and Evolution.
"Delighted to be in Paris" in the presence of "her two sons, in the audience" (in French in the text) and " to leave the USA for a little while" (she evokes the current political context in the USA), Sheryl Crow showed herself to be particularly smiling and close to her audience during this 1h40 concert, with no downtime. Accompanied by a guitarist, a bassist, a drummer and a pianist-chorist, the artist herself alternated between acoustic and electric guitar, and even bass at almost every song change.
In a total leather look with bangs that could not have been more cowboy, the former backing vocalist for Michael Jackson, Joe Cocker and Rod Stewart offered a true American concert, with no star-spangled banner hanging, but a real Missourian concert atmosphere, sending out rock, pop and country music celebrating freedom and love.
His fan base may not be getting any younger, but the audience was receptive - even dancing - to his greatest hits(All I Wanna Do, My Favorite Mistake, If it Makes You Happy, Soak up the Sun...), buoyed by his deep voice, which hasn't changed a bit and still manages to soar high. Right through to the last track of the encore, I Shall Believe, one of his most moving songs.
No doubt about it, Sheryl Crow continues to make us happy.
