In the wake of the violent cyclone Chido that has ravaged Mayotte, France Télévisions is mobilizing to organize a "major evening of support and solidarity". Broadcast live on France 2 this Tuesday, December 17, this special evening will feature "stories from the national newsroom and live performances by artists mobilized for the occasion". We tell you all about it.

The images of the disaster caused by cyclone Chido in Mayotte are appalling. Given the scale of the damage, it is still impossible to know the number of victims. According to Météo France, Cyclone Chido, which ravaged the French overseas territory on December 14, was the most violent cyclone to hit the archipelago in 90 years.

So, in response to the"emergency situation affecting the Mayotte archipelago", France 2 is upsetting its programming and broadcasting live a"great evening of support and solidarity" this Tuesday, December 17, 2024 from 8:50pm. France Télévisions told AFP on Monday evening.

This special evening, entitled " Unis pour Mayotte " (" United for Mayotte ") according to our colleagues in Le Parisien, will feature"subjects from the national newsroom and live performances by artists mobilized for the occasion".

As reported in Le Parisien and Outre-mer La Première, several artists have already confirmed their presence, including singer and guitarist Thomas Dutronc, singer Nolwenn Leroy, Marc Lavoine and Raphaël. Also announced are Cali, Ycare, artist Meiitod, Kimberose and Franco-Georgian pianist Khatia Buniatishvili. Other names are expected to be added to the line-up. At the time of writing, however, the names of the presenters had not yet been announced.

Organized"as part of the appeal for solidarity orchestrated by the Fondation de France", the evening's main aim is to collect donations to help those affected by the disaster, and to help Mayotte rebuild in the aftermath.

Alongside this show of solidarity, Emmanuel Macron announced that he would be visiting Mayotte " in the next few days " and that a national mourning period would be declared.
