The Fondation Custodia provides seven exhibition room to Siemen Dijkstra. The artist presents A Bois Perdu, a collection or works made these past 25 years. An overview of the career and unique technique of Siemen Djikstra to discover from July 7 to September 6, 2020.
The sketches of the Dutch artist look like no other and for good reason, Siemen Dijkstra uses a technique of reduction woodcuts, a method called… à bois perdu. The artist uses entails each layer of color being cut out separately from a single piece of wood, then printed successively on the paper. Some of the largest editions can be built up out of 10 to 18 colors.
These mixes of colors and superpositions unveils many details and create a panel of lights and a more than realistic atmosphere. The artist wants to create the landscapes he sees around him, worry about the fact they could disappear. The A Bois Perdu exhibition is also a call for protecting the environment and the biodiversity, a topic dear to Siemen Dijkstra.
