When two sacred monsters of fashion talk to each other through their creations... Galerie Azzedine Alaïa invites fashionistas and other fashion lovers to discover a superb exhibition based on the creations of Cristobal Balenciaga andAzzedine Alaïa, entitled Alaïa et Balenciaga, Sculpteurs de la forme, from May 20 to June 28, 2020. Finally reopening after a period of confinement, the exhibition features 80 models by the two designers, presented for the first time in this configuration.
Drawn from the archives compiled by Azzedine Alaïa, the various Balenciaga pieces are shown in the couture house,"now the headquarters of the association that watches over his memory and his work". The creations are in surprising dialogue with each other. And with good reason: in 1968, Balenciaga announced outright that he was closing his store, as ready-to-wear was not a success. Many pieces were destined to be thrown away or sold, and Azzedine Alaïa decided to salvage them. Alaïa treasured these models and even drew inspiration from them for his own creations.
An exhibition which, after Paris, will make a short trip to Spain in July 2020, to the Balenciaga Foundation in Guetaria, the village where this Haute Couture prodigy was born. The opportunity to discover two fashion popes and learn more aboutAzzedine Alaïa's inspirations. Shall we go, friends?
