It is not every day such a big exhibition is held in Paris! One designer, six museums, six different lights to speak of this uncommon man’s life and work. It would have been 60 years since his first show: Yves Saint Laurent is given pride of place in Paris museums!
From January 29 to May 15, 2022, the musée d'Orsay focuses on the codes and symbols hidden behind the designer’s creations. Abandoning traditional models and imperatives, Yves Saint Lauren had fun playing with lines, reinventing codes, redefining limits. With this exhibition, the museum explores the issue of the genre in the designer’s work, and unveils the way he reinterpreted male/female clothing codes.
Yves Saint Laurent was also a reader: the influence of Marcel Proust’s novels is clear in his designs. The exhibition shines a light on the bonds between the designer’s imaginary and the French writer’s literary universe. To enjoy these references better, work on your French classics and head to the Musée Carnavalet that is currently curating a fantastic exhibition about Marcel Proust.
From his very first shows, Yves Saint Laurent managed to influence French fashion. Always renewing himself, he spent his career playing with conventions, shapes, colors, to provide always surprising and innovative collections.
The “Yves Saint Laurent in Museums” exhibition is deployed in six major Paris museums, each one of them highlighting an aspect of the designer’s universe and character. Meet at the Centre Pompidou, the Musée national Picasso, the Museum of Modern Art, the Louvre and the Yves Saint Laurent Museum to discover the rest of the exhibition.
