This is his first retrospective in Paris, painter Albert Edelfelt comes to enchant your daily life from March 10 to July 10, 2022, with an exclusive exhibition running at the Petit Palais. Born in 1854, this Finnish painter met success thanks to his naturalist works of art filled with poetry and softness. He is the one behind the famous portrait of Louis Pasteur, painted when the scientist was carrying out researches about rabies.
This exhibition called “Albert Edelfelt, Lights of Finland” shines a light on the painter’s birth country as he studied a lot and lived in France. Discover over a hundred exceptional works of art returning on the artist’s career, a major name in the Finnish art industry who widely contributed to the fame of the country in the late 19th century.
At his debuts, interested in History painting, he quickly turns to naturalism, inspired by Parisian artistic trends at this time. As he spends time with other artists, he is influenced by the impressionist and naturalist trends he quickly appropriates to himself to create his very own style.
In love with his birth country, Albert Edelfelt often visits Finland to paint the wide landscapes. He particularly loves painting street scenes and traditions of his mother land, pictures often meeting success in Paris art shows. His works stand out especially with colors and the painter’s skills who knows how to play with lights to enhance a landscape.
This Finnish art pioneer, model and reference for all young artists of his country, is also involved in his country’s life and fought for the independence of Finland.
