Attentioncontemporary art lovers! From April 15 to August 28, 2022, the Musée d'art moderne de Paris invites you to discover an exhibition of works by French artist Eugène Leroy. The exhibition focuses on his career and the evolution of his art.
In all, some 150 works will be on display, tracing a prolific career. An artist who has always sought to"capture painting in its essence, without losing the emotion that makes it possible", as the museum explains in a press release. "As Eugène Leroy explained in 1979,"All I've ever tried to do in painting is to achieve [...] a kind of absence [...] so that painting is totally itself.
These canvases are presented as"a battlefield where image and matter clash", bringing together layer after layer"all the momentary impressions aroused by the motif, [...] tirelessly reworked until the subject almost disappears", with the aim of proposing"indefinitely renewed" readings. But always with reference to the masters, revisiting"classic iconographic themes such as nudes, self-portraits and landscapes".
A painter, one of the most important of the contemporary French landscape, whose work is recognized and admired by many contemporary artists. And an exhibition that also sheds light on the pictorial research process ofEugène Leroy, an artist as demanding as he is sensitive. An opportunity to learn more about this influential painter.
