Nature as seen by Eugène Delacroix... This is what the Musée Delacroix has in store for you with its latest exhibition, Delacroix et la Nature, from March 16 to June 27, 2022. A retrospective of works by the artist who loved nature and tried to represent it through his keen, fascinated eye.
Tigers, bouquets of flowers, horses... Nature is an omnipresent element in Delacroix's work. Better still, it occupies"a much more complex place, between observation, study and reinvention". Throughout his career, he lovingly described"the beauty of nature" in his Diary, as well as in several letters. Stays at the seaside or in the countryside, drawing animals at the Jardin des Plantes menagerie... Everything is a source of inspiration.
A love, certainly, but also an object of study. The shape of a leaf, the colors of a flower, the texture of a coat... Delacroix delights in studying and depicting these details in his work. This exhibition showcases the artist's reflections, through numerous works, including rare landscapes, sketches and sketches, forming"a collection of personal herbariums and bestiaries, study sheets that Delacroix never showed to the public during his lifetime".
The exhibition thus invites the curious to"take another look at what nature has to offer, to follow in Delacroix's footsteps, with an artist's eye". The tour ends in the museum's gardens, where a podcast invites you to"step back in time with Adolphe Cabot, Eugène Delacroix's gardener, who will recount the history of this verdant setting". Numerous workshops, as well as concerts, guided tours and lectures, are planned. A great opportunity to rediscover the Musée Delacroix!
