" Everything that is contradictory creates life," said Salvador Dali. A principle that guided the passions and creations of this mythical artist, who is no longer presented. The Mayoral gallery is interested in one of the contradictions of the painter, in its new free exhibition organized from March 29 to May 28, 2023.
The Ultralocal/ultraglobal exhibition focuses on two seemingly opposite aspects of Salvador Dali: his attachment to his native country, and the way Catalonia inspires his works, and his international career, marked by great popularity, encounters and amazing collaborations.
Dali grew up in the region of Empordà, and more precisely towards Cadaqués. The landscapes and scenes of Catalonia are found in many paintings and creations of the artist, who keeps a deep love for his native land. These works are exhibited at the Mayoral gallery: we can admire the rocks and the port of Cadaqués, the peasants in traditional dress... The landscapes, traditions and culture of Dali are celebrated in these paintings.
But Dali was also a traveler, who was inspired by Italian, French or American art to enrich his work. We find the artist in Paris, alongside the surrealists, or in the United States, in New York or on the West Coast. Many works highlighted in this exhibition illustrate these different periods.
We discover of course paintings, but also installations and amazing sculptures, a study sheet made during the collaboration of Dali with Walt Disney, photographs, and even a reconstruction of one of the most famous "happening" made by Dali. Attention, this event is to be seen exclusively on March 28, 2023!
Prolific artist, creator full of surprises, Dali reveals himself before our eyes, thanks to the exhibition of the Mayoral gallery. Do not miss this appointment!
