Discovery: À quelques pas du monde - Immersive Sound Experience at the Opéra Garnier - our test

TheOpéra national de Paris, always at the forefront of artistic and technological innovation, unveils from September 6 to 30, 2023 a brand-new offering for culture and digital lovers: À quelques pas du monde. In partnership with Tamanoir Immersive Studio, this immersive sound and light experience offers total immersion in the bewitching world of theOpéra Garnier, while adopting a modern and engaging approach.

Located in the exhibition rotunda of the Bibliothèque-musée de l'Opéra, this 30-minute exploration offers participants a magical, sensory plunge via audio headsets. A voice guides visitors, taking them on a journey where every step sounds like a musical note and every gesture is like a dance. The luminous atmosphere evolves in harmony with the music and spatialized sounds, offering an almost dreamlike experience where the boundaries between reality and illusion become blurred.

This initiative, developed as part of the CNC's 15-25 project call, aims to attract a younger audience to cultural venues, while embracing the benefits of modern digital technologies. For one month, visitors to the Palais Garnier can sign up for this adventure, with six sessions a day.

So, what's the value of this immersive experience at the Palais Garnier? For once, we headed to the opera house to test this new feature... And our verdict is clear: it's a wonderful, surprising experience to be had at this emblematic Parisian venue. How does it work? Once you've bought your entrance ticket and passed through the doors of the monument, take along your reservation for the experience. The Library-Museum is located at the top of the grand staircase, on the left after passing through the amphitheatre doors, in the main corridor (you can't go wrong).

From here, you're provided with an audio guide and headphones... And this is where your adventure begins! All you have to do is follow the directions. An experience that requires you to interact with the scenery, but above all with yourself. It invites you to become aware of your body and mind, thanks to particularly well-synchronized light and sound effects. Music, ambient sounds... everything is designed to relax you, because that's what this exercise is all about: learning to release tension through sound and movement.

Note that you can push the experience to the limit by moving or dancing within the space, or just listen to your audioguide. You can also close your eyes for a more intense experience, but be careful when moving around! A real bubble of well-being, allowing you to disconnect from reality for half an hour and take a breather. So, you might say, it's a bit expensive for just a 30-minute experience, but it's also an opportunity, after your experience, to visit the Palais Garnier and discover the history of this architectural jewel of the capital.
