The Panthéon pays tribute to the great figures who stood up against slavery, with a groundbreaking exhibition. From November 9, 2023 to February 11, 2024, discover "Daring to be free".

As the temple of France's great men and women, the Panthéon had a duty to honor the heroes who fought to put an end to slavery. The monument is devoting a new exhibition to these figures of freedom, with Oser la liberté, on view from November 9, 2023 to February 11, 2024.

The exhibition tells the story of the men and women who took a stand against slavery. The exhibition retraces four centuries of struggle, and reveals the portraits of these committed figures. Some of the Panthéon's residents, such as Toussaint Louverture and Louis Delgrès, Aimé Césaire, Félix Éboué, Joséphine Baker, l'abbé Grégoire, Condorcet, Victor Schœlcher... are featured. And other great minds such as Olympe de Gouges, Makandal, Julien Raimond...

Archives, paintings, sculptures, letters, photographs and audiovisual devices illustrate this eventful page inhistory. The slave trade in the 15th century, the Enlightenment and the French Revolution, the Haitian slave revolt in the 18th century, the abolition and re-establishment of slavery by Napoleon I, commemorations, modern struggles against slavery around the world... These struggles have gone on for centuries, supported by thinkers, politicians and artists who have called for freedom and equality for all.

The Panthéon unveils an important, powerful and moving exhibition, reminding us that these struggles are still relevant today. Take the opportunity to discover Raphaël Barontini's carte blanche, We could be heroes.
