Bright colors, striking lines, dynamic staging: without knowing her name, you've probably already admired Viviane Sassen's work. It's time to get to know this photographer a little better! The Dutch artist is the focus of a major retrospective at the Maison Européenne de la Photographie, from October 18, 2023 to February 11, 2024.
The exhibition, entitled PHOSPHOR: Art & Fashion, brings together over 200 works from various collections, including "Parasomnia", "Umbra", "Roxane" and "Flamboya". Many of the photographs, as well as paintings, videos and collages, symbolize the different periods of Viviane Sassen's rich career.
Shadows, light and movement, colors, symmetry or chaos, abstract works, fashion photography: in over 30 years of work, the artist has experimented, perfected, revolutionized and deepened her art and her working method. Always evolving, Viviane Sassen has renewed herself with each collection, to better express her vision of the world.
The MEP exhibition also highlights the artist's creative process, to give us a more intimate, subtle understanding of the works on show.
