A free exhibition has been set up in the Galerie des Fêtes of theAssemblée Nationale for International Women's Rights Day, and will run for almost a month, until March 26, 2024. At the initiative of Yaël Braun-Pivet, this high place of power celebrates the right of French women to vote and stand for election, finally granted in 1944, a few weeks before its 80th anniversary on April 21.
"Aux urnes, citoyennes!" retraces women's long struggle for their rights, through a wide range of objects: posters, manuscripts, old newspapers, police notes on feminist movements, militant objects, extracts from parliamentary debates. A collection of archives and documents that will enable the general public to reconstruct this battle for political equality.
From Olympe de Gouges to Marianne in the guise of Mahsa Amini, via Louise Weiss and Eugénie Niboyet, the exhibition echoes the voices of women and highlights these heroines, sometimes forgotten by the collective memory, who fought so that women could express themselves, alongside a few allied men, for a complete democracy.
