From October 18 to November 15, discover Bénédicte Dussère's landscapes and gardens at l'Aiguillage aux Frigos de Paris, and meet the artist on Saturday 26 from 2 to 6 pm.

"The studio is where it all happens, where memory and imagination come together, working with matter, accepting the unexpected. Erasing or retaining the material as if the image were gradually being built up on the support, like a story being invented, an emotion returning, the trace we try to leave in the eyes of a world that surrounds us, through its landscapes and more recently the intimacy of gardens.

I most often use oil paint on canvas or translucent paper , working in the material without prior drawing. Some areas are more diluted than others, seeking out the light until the white of the support becomes transparent, creatingan atmosphere , a story, a geography.

Black and white dominates my work, allowing myself to be carried away by the materials, keeping a trace of them rather than representing them as one might do "by working on the motif". The landscape is there, I have nothing to add, but what interests me is what it imbues in my memory, thus inspiring my work: a more intimate moment, no doubt, an emotion, a particular look that's unique to each of us when faced with the solitude of a landscape, but which each of us observes and marvels at with our own vision, emotion and story. The memory of all this becomes traces, inspiration.

The landscape, an immense common space from which the eye retains only a memory, a trace, a "framing" specific to each individual.

The garden, a more delimited, intimate space that we build for ourselves, gives us a fragment of landscape, and here color appears in my work.

To show what can be ephemeral depending on the weather, the season...

And then simply let yourself paint."

Les Frigos, with its water tower, is a legendary site in the 13th arrondissement of Paris.

L'Aiguillageis an emblematic venue on the Paris cultural scene, founded in 1995 by Corinne Bertelot, photographer and resident artist at Les Frigos, a famous creative and production site in the 13th arrondissement of Paris.
Transforming her photo studio into an exhibition space dedicated to the visual arts and to artistic and cultural events, she joined forces with her sister Isabel, a visual artist and artistic co-director, to bring the Aiguillage Association to life.
Over the past three decades, l'Aiguillage has presented over 1,000 artists through eclectic exhibitions that aim to reach a wide audience while raising societal issues.

The association stands out for its openness to creators from all horizons, while showcasing the talents of Frigos through individual and group exhibitions.

Far from being a simple exhibition space, L'Aiguillage also positions itself as a committed player, regularly collaborating with social and humanitarian associations such as Médecins Sans Frontières, Observatoire International des Prisons, Greenpeace, Act Up and Refugee Food, to raise awareness of important causes.
