A former railroad line encircling Paris, what is now known as the Petite Ceinture Parisienne was in operation from 1852 to 1993, providing over 30 kilometers of track to serve the whole of Paris. Today, only sections of the capital's railway past remain, visible and open to visitors in certain arrondissements. In the 15th arrondissement, for example, or the 17th and 19th arrondissements, where a number of "tiers-lieux" have been set up, or in the 18th arrondissement, where the now-famous Hasard Ludique provides access to the tracks.
So, since the closure of the railway line and the opening of certain sections to the general public, theAssociation de sauvegarde de la Petite Ceinture regularly organizes free guided tours to discover the former stations and remains of the railway line. On Saturday November 16 and Sunday November 17, the association is inviting the general public to discover theUAICF model railway exhibition in Ivry-sur-Seine. And with good reason: Paris's Petite Ceinture will be in the spotlight, as it's the theme of this year's event! It's an opportunity to discover magnificent modules (in 3D or in physical form) and numerous objects and old documents from the association's collections.
Half-hour talks will also be offered throughout the weekend. So, see you on the weekend of November 16 and 17, 2024, at the Centre sportif d'Ivry Champs Dauphin, for this exhibition on Paris's Little Belt! Admission is €2 per person, and free for SNCF employees.
Finally, if you're not yet familiar with Paris's Petite Ceinture, we can only recommend that you discover it: in one go if you're prepared to do a lot of walking, or in several sections. A bucolic stroll and a change of scenery without even leaving Paris guaranteed!
