Following the extension of RER line E to Nanterre-la-Folie and line 14 north and south to Orly, many are now awaiting the imminent opening of lines 15, 16 and 17 of the Grand Paris Express. For its part, RATP is continuing its modernization work. Ile-de-France Mobilités has announced the arrival of MF19 on 8 metro lines. However, this long-term project will be carried out in several stages, and will be rolled out progressively on the various lines concerned: line 10 (by 2025), line 7bis (2026), line 3 bis (2027), line 13 (2027), line 12 (2028), line 8 (2029), line 3 (2031) and line 7 (2033).
Metro line 10, which runs between Boulogne - Pont de Saint-Cloud and Gare d'Austerlitz, will be the first line to welcome the new MF19 metro. In concrete terms, this is a modular train, " a symbol of modernity, designed to meet the challenges of tomorrow and the needs of today ". This new-generation metro-railway is designed to provide passengers with greater comfort (reversible air conditioning, comfortable seats, natural lighting, USB ports and screens for real-time passenger information, etc.) and offer different waiting areas (short and long journey, space reserved for people with reduced mobility).
Users of line 10 may have noticed, but work has been underway on this line since 2022, to prepare for the arrival of the MF19s. " Some infrastructure and station equipment will need to be adapted," explains RATP, adding that " this new rolling stock means that a number of elements essential to the smooth running of trains, from power systems to signalling equipment, will have to be brought up to standard ".
The Régie Autonome des Transports Parisiens (RATP) is currently carrying out a number of refurbishments on line 10, including the replacement of two kilometers of cable and 2,500 hooks, the installation of 52 piloting aids, the reshaping of 610 meters of platform to the new metro's gauge, and the installation of 288 beacons to enable the MF19's integrated piloting system to locate itself online. " Discreet changes for passengers, but a major step forward for the project ", says RATP.
A little more patience, then, before boarding the new MF19 metro on line 10. If all goes according to plan, this new-generation metro should be in service on line 10 by 2025.
