The Musée Picasso in Paris takes a closer look at the many references found in the works of Pablo Picasso, in an exhibition on view from June 11 to September 15, 2024.

A new exhibition opens at the Musée national Picasso-Paris: from June 11 to September 15, 2024, discover Picasso iconophage. Numerous paintings, drawings and sculptures reveal the Spanish master's influences.

During his long career, Pablo Picasso produced a huge number of works. But the Paris museum's collections don't stop there: in the course of his life, the artist found and preserved no fewer than 200,000 archival items: postcards, photographs, magazines and books, posters... This varied collection served as a reference for the painter, who found it an original source of inspiration. Picasso's modern approach and avant-garde art did not, however, turn him away from the models of the past: he reclaimed his heritage fromclassical art.

The Musée Picasso therefore explores how the painter constructed his images, what motifs he used, how he chose shapes and subjects... Whether in the aisles of the Louvre or on newsagents' stalls, the Spanish artist knew how to find inspiration everywhere.

The exhibition is divided into four themes: the hero, the Minotaur, the voyeur and the musketeer. These motifs recur regularly in Picasso's work, often in deconstructed or unexpected ways. The exhibition then places Picasso's paintings in dialogue with more classical works, to show both the modernity and the history that influenced the artist's hand.

An original exhibition to learn more about Picasso and his work.
