Whentransgressive, eroticart takes over Galerie La Lison... Claude Guénard, iconoclastic artist of free figuration, invites you to discover his provocative and erotic universe at the gallery/tattoo parlour, a stone's throw from Place de la République, from September 12 to October 26, 2024. Theexhibition, entitled Rites Charnels, explores the theme of the tattooed body and the rituals associated with marriage. Free opening this Thursday, September 12, from 7.30pm.
In this exhibition, Claude Guénard revisits social rituals and their contemporary meanings. Three series of works will punctuate the tour: the first reinterprets wedding photographs from the 1940s-1950s, while the second pays homage to the art of tattooing. The third, more spectacular series, features large paintings where tattooed groom∙es and transgressive bridal scenes come to life.
The exhibition Rites Charnels is an invitation to reflect on how our society approaches the concepts of body and identity through the prism of ritual. Art critic Damien Sausset notes that Claude Guénard succeeds in " transcending contradictions to create works that are allegorical testimonies to his human experience ".
Whether you're a fan of contemporary art, tattooing or simply curious, the Rites Charnels exhibition awaits you at Galerie La Lison for an immersion into the world of an artist who dares to redefine the limits of artistic expression. Want to drop in?
