To coincide with the Festival d'Automne, the Centre Pompidou is devoting a special focus to Thai filmmaker Apichatpong Weerasethakul, from October 2, 2024 to January 6, 2025. The program includes a performance, an exhibition and a retrospective.

As part of the Festival d'Automne, the Centre Pompidou is hosting a focus on Thai filmmaker Apichatpong Weerasethakul, from October 2, 2024 to January 6, 2025. The event explores the artist's multifaceted work through an exhibition, a retrospective of his films and a virtual reality performance.

The exhibition Particules de nuit, presented in the Pavillon Brancusi until December 31, offers a journey through a dozen video installations. Apichatpong Weerasethakul transforms the space into a nocturnal environment, blending biographical and architectural reminiscences. One of the central pieces, Solarium, evokes a 1981 Thai horror film and deals with themes of blindness and internal vision. The artist thus stages a poetic reflection on the relationship between memory and the senses.

At the same time, a complete retrospective of his films is being held at the Centre Pompidou from October 2 to November 9, including his eight feature films, rare shorts and two films he produced. Considered one of the most innovative directors of his generation, he was awarded the Palme d'Or at Cannes in 2010 for Uncle Boonmee, The Man Who Remembers His Past Lives, and the Prix du Jury in 2021 for Memoria.

As for the performance, A Conversation with the Sun, offered in virtual reality from October 5 to 14, creates"the conditions for a collective dream", as the Festival d'Automne explains. This is not a new performance, but a third part has been added for its Paris presentation. An experience that pivots"around a passage where, from spectator, the visitor becomes explorer of an otherworld", oscillating between near-death experience and return to the origins of life.
