Arte Povera is in the spotlight this autumn in Paris. The Bourse de Commerce is devoting its new major exhibition to this Italian artistic movement, which emerged on the international scene in the 1960s.
For its part, Galleria Continua, located in the Marais district of Paris, honors Michelangelo Pistoletto, the main protagonist of Arte Povera. For the occasion, the contemporary Italian artist, originally from Piedmont, unveils " Nouvelle perspective ", his new solo exhibition.
To be discovered free of charge from October 14 to November 23, 2024, in the heart of the capital, this installation highlights the surprising and fascinating work of Michelangelo Pistoletto. A graphic artist, engraver, painter, sculptor and visual artist, Michelangelo Pistoletto is best known for his famous " mirror paintings ". The artist began painting on mirrors in the early 60s. With this concept, the viewer, his environment and the temporal dimension are integrated into the work.
The artist is behind many other works, such as the installation " Venere degli stracci ", in which Michelangelo Pistoletto uses rags to evoke the notion of recycling.
In this " Nouvelle perspective " installation, we discover a number of the artist's " mirror paintings ". Michelangelo Pistoletto 's mirrors are everywhere, from the basement, with its broken mirrors, to the first floor, and above all the first floor. "In the fracture of the mirror, the mark that remains when the mirrors fall is the imprint of an instant, like a photographic capture of the breaking event. It's a moment that remains frozen. However, there is an element of chance in the way it happens. In this chance, I let nature intervene; I don't control it. In these new works, there's the event of the instant that, this time, I control: there's the impulse of the gesture that becomes a cut, at once random and controlled", explains the Italian artist on one of the walls of the Paris gallery.
To discover Michelangelo Pistoletto's " New Perspective " exhibition, head to Galleria Continua, in the Marais district, from October 14 to November 23, 2024.
