Guillaume Bresson 's meticulous attention to detail and his talent for hyperrealism both fascinate us and make us wonder... The artist is exhibiting his paintings in the African rooms of the Château de Versailles, from January 21 to May 25, 2025. Come and discover his world and his unique works.
The African rooms at the Château de Versailles are home to monumental canvases and large-scale decors illustrating the major battles of the colonial conquest of North Africa in the early 19th century. These rooms showcase the battles and the French army, with the soldiers in the spotlight.
Guillaume Bresson also stages fights. Thecontemporary artist uses photography to create his scenes: he prepares several photo sessions with models, immortalizing body movements, poses and gestures to better reproduce them on his canvases. The painter then chooses his characters, assembling the bodies to create a story.
The artist depicts fights, street brawls and torments. These modern elements are contrasted by the many religious and historical references. This mix of genres surprises and questions. The painter's hyper-realistic style also sows confusion: is it a montage, a photograph? Is the work recent or modern?
Bodies are at the center of these paintings, and the many details reveal the emotions and suffering of the characters. The exaggerated movements, tension and strong contrasts in these works echo the Baroque style also found in the château.
A dialogue is established between Guillaume Bresson's paintings and the exhibition room settings. The artist questions our vision of violence, the way it is presented, accepted or rejected. Wars or street brawls, ancient or recent conflicts are not perceived in the same way.
Theexhibition at the Château de Versailles promises to be very interesting: let's go and discover it without delay!
