ALBERT BENOIS (KONSKY), June 11, 1888, St. Petersburg - August 13, 1960, Paris
Architect, painter and graphic designer who made a major contribution to the development of Russian Orthodox art in France and Western Europe. He became one of the leading architects and painters working in the Russian Revival style in the 1930s-1950s.
A versatile talent, Albert created designs for houses and villas, stone churches, wooden iconostases, monuments and tombstones, and was also a remarkable woodcarver and watercolorist.
Despite the scope and importance of Albert Benois' work for Russian immigration, no book devoted to his work has been published, and no retrospective exhibition has been organized.
ARCHITECT ALBERT BENOIS
In this first Architecte Albert Benois exhibition devoted to his multi-faceted work, the curators wanted to present the rich heritage of this astonishing architect and artist-painter as comprehensively as possible.
Some 50 works are on show, many of them never before exhibited.
BOOK
Published to coincide with the opening of the exhibition, Pavel Pavlinov's book tells the story of the artist's career and work for the first time, detailing all his most significant architectural and artistic projects.
