A duo of artists to discover at the Pernod Ricard Foundation! The institution is devoting an exhibition to artists Grichka and Tohé Commaret, entitled Miss Recuerdo, from February 18 to April 26, 2025. The exhibition explores the memory of familiar places through a combination of painting and video. An immersive reflection that highlights the artistic trajectories of these two creators from the Robespierre district of Vitry-sur-Seine.
Theexhibition is based on a dialogue between the respective works of Grichka and Tohé Commaret. Grichka's paintings, often small-scale, capture urban scenes marked by an atmosphere suspended between past and present, while Tohé's videos transform everyday scenes into dreamlike, emotional tableaux. This duality is at the heart of the project, as evidenced by their common film Palma, two excerpts from which are presented. The latter revisits the memories of a changing neighborhood, notably through the disappearance of a local figure, Malo, whose story feeds the narrative.
The exhibition's scenography, entrusted to the CluelesS design duo, is directly inspired by the architectural elements of the Vitry-sur-Seine neighborhood. Intercom systems, staircases and elevators are all integrated to reflect the fragmented, transitory aesthetic of the Commaret siblings' work. This choice contributes to the emergence of a magical realism, underlining the importance of these places in the construction of identities. According to the Pernod-Ricard Foundation, the exhibition invites"visitors to explore fragments of shared memory, while questioning what it means to belong to a place and to build oneself through it".
