The Musée de l'Orangerie welcomes Dans le flou, an exhibition open from April 30 to August 18, 2025. Theexhibition explores the use of blur as an aesthetic choice and a key to interpretation in modern and contemporary art. Through a selection of varied works, the exhibition examines the visual and intellectual upheavals that have emerged since the Second World War.
This approach is based on emblematic works such as Claude Monet's Water Lilies, long perceived as abstract painting. Blur, often attributed to the artist's visual deficiency, is presented here as an aesthetic bias. This concept becomes a tool of expression in the face of an unstable world, where the traditional order of visual certainties is called into question. " Blur becomes both symptom and remedy of a world in search of meaning ", emphasizes the museum.
The non-chronological tour is structured around themes such as "at the frontiers of the visible" and "the erosion of certainties". An introductory room explores the roots of vagueness, while an epilogue, "re-enchanting the world", concludes with a contemporary reflection, notably in the words of artist Mircea Cantor: " unpredictable future ". A visual and intellectual experience that invites a renewed interpretation of art and the world.
