Attention couture and culture buffs, open your diaries - Paris, the fashion capital of the world, will be celebrating the man who metamorphosed the art of dressmaking. From May 7 to September 7, 2025, the Petit Palais opens its doors to an exceptional fashion exhibition: Worth: The Birth of Haute Couture in Paris. Produced in partnership with the Palais Galliera, this retrospective exhibition on the couturier's life and work will be a major first in Paris!
At the heart of the event was Charles Frederick Worth (1825-1895), nicknamed the "father of haute couture". In 1858, this British designer set up shop at 7 rue de la Paix, and turned international fashion on its head with pieces of unparalleled refinement. A daring visionary, Worth laid the foundations of a family empire that spanned four generations and a century of creation, thrilling the social salons of the day and establishing Paris as the world capital of elegance.
In the vast galleries of the Petit Palais, visitors will discover a fabulous selection of emblematic costumes from the rich collections of the museums of the City of Paris. An opportunity to admire the craftsmanship of this legendary couturier.
Orchestrated by Annick Lemoine, General Curator of Heritage and Director of the Petit Palais, and Miren Arzalluz, Director of the Palais Galliera, the exhibition pays tribute to Worth's timeless heritage, shedding new light on a legendary fashion house that has been forgotten for too long.
From opulent materials to meticulous details, (re)discover the origins of haute couture in the majestic setting of the Petit Palais. Worth it? Absolutely!
