From May 29 to June 5, 2024, the Latin Quarter will live to the rhythm of literature and be transformed into a giant bookshop, for the new edition of the Quartier du Livre festival. More than 80 emblematic venues in the 5th arrondissement are taking part in the festival, from the Sorbonne to the Panthéon, via the Collège des Bernardins, with nearly 200 free events for children and adults.
It was on the Montagne Sainte-Geneviève, cradle of the University, that France's first printed book was born. The 5th arrondissement is home to the largest number of bookshops in Paris, including the famous Shakespeare & Company, and its identity has been forged through contact with literature. For a whole week, book lovers will be able to enjoy events and workshops around the theme"À l'aventure", whether they're students, families or friends.
The Mairie du 5e, on Place du Panthéon, will host the Librairie Éphémère, where authors will meet, sign books, hold debates and conferences throughout the festival. Also on the program: readings and events, theatrical improvisation workshops, literary walks, escape games and treasure hunts in the district's major libraries and monuments.
