Created in 1933, Clos Montmartre comprises over 1,760 vines planted with 27 different grape varieties, including Gamay and Pinot. The vineyard pays homage to the winegrowing past of the Montmartre district, where wine-growing was highly developed in the 16th century.
SinceGallo-Roman times, Montmartre's vineyards had been growing grapes to make wine: they reached their peak in the 18th century, before gradually disappearing, like other Parisian vineyards, as a result of the city's massive urbanization. So, in 1933, a group of enthusiasts campaigned to save the land of the current Montmartre vines (with the support of the Paris City Council), plant new vines and harvest and bottle Clos Montmartre wine. These fervent defenders of Montmartre's heritage have since gone on to form the République de Montmartre, which, as soon as the vines were planted, decided to donate all profits from the wine sold to the most disadvantaged members of society (and still do). Clos Montmartre now donates between 1 and 1.8 tonnes of grapes a year, equivalent to around 2,000 bottles of wine.

Since then, in 1934, the Clos Mont martre grape harvest has taken place every year in October: a grand celebration of the arrival of the new vintage, with entertainment, concerts, a taste village, the Grand Défilé des confréries vinuses, the ceremony for the unmarried... This year, join us from October 11 to 15, 2023 to celebrate the Montmartre Grape Harvest , or all year round if you'd like to visit the vineyards during a tour. In fact, the Musée Montmartre offers a guided tour of the vineyards with Clos Montmartre wine tasting (for adults only) for €36 per person, every Saturday afternoon!
On the other side of the hill, at the Arènes de Montmartre, a few vines have also been planted: if you have the opportunity to enter these arenas, which are open to the public for certain events such as the Arènes Lyriques or the Festival des Arènes, you'll find them there!
A beautiful vineyard, to be discovered all year round in Montmartre during a stroll through the Sacré-Cœur district!
