Much less well known thanLac Daumesnil, overlooked by the Romantic Temple onIle de Reuilly, Lac de Saint-Mandé is the northernmost lake in the Bois de Vincennes. Together with Lac des Minimes, Lac Daumesnil and Lac de la Gravelle, it forms a group of four natural or surface lakes within the Bois de Vincennes.
Lac de Saint-Mandé is a 1.5-hectare natural pond on the border between Saint-Mandé and the Bois de Vincennes. Surrounded by an English-style garden, the lake has a single (inaccessible) island at its center. Strolling around the Saint-Mandé lake, you'll eventually come across the Chalet du lac, a particularly festive restaurant and dance bar, where Sunday afternoons are spent rocking, brunching or sunbathing on the chalet beach!
Although you can hire boats to navigate two of the other lakes in the Bois de Vincennes - Lac des Minimes and Lac Daumesnil - you can't do so on Lac de Saint-Mandé. However, the paths around the lake are accessible to baby carriages and bicycles: for a stroll with family or friends, head for Lac de Saint-Mandé!
