From the vantage point of Château de la Roche-Guyon, this is the first thing you see: the geometric paths of the kitchen garden and its very green trees on the banks of the Seine. Created in 1697, the kitchen garden was redeveloped in the early 18th century. Over the centuries, the garden lost its charm and fell into neglect: it wasn't until 2004 that its French layout was restored, perfectly squaring the 3.8 hectares it covers.
Recognized as the largest kitchen garden in the Île-de-France region - after the Potager du Roi at Versailles, it goes without saying - the kitchen garden at La Roche Guyon boasts no fewer than 675 fruit trees! Apple, plum, peach and plum trees, as well as herbs and other vegetables, are grown here. Since 2013, having abandoned the use of synthetic chemicals, the kitchen garden has obtained Organic Agriculture certification for its production, which can be purchased (during high season only) in the kitchen garden store.
Since 2011, the garden has also been classified as a " Jardins remarquables" by the French Ministry of Culture. Visits to the kitchen garden are entirely free and open to all: the site is open every day from 10am to 5pm. To get there by public transport (the route by car will be quicker), you can take the Transilien line J to Mantes-la-Jolie (you get off at Mantes-la-Jolie), then bus 95-11 (towards Place du 19 mars 1962, Mairie stop). Enjoy your trip to La Roche-Guyon!
