Open a few months ago, La Canonnière has been attracting many patrons looking for good wines and good food in a very warm atmosphere.

This small wine cellar has been eyeing at us for a while. We eventually came in and gave a go to La Canonnière, rue de la Fontaine au roi in Paris 11th arrondissement.

Barely in and we cannot miss what we are here for: wine! The wall is covered in beautiful wine bottles showing here it is all about organic, natural wines from small estates. All bottles are sold for a cellar price (bottles starting from €8), with an extra €10 when you choose to drink it on site. A selection of wines by the glass also enables to keep things interesting.

Created by three friends, La Canonnière first and foremost aims at providing good products we wish can delight one’s palates or stomach. Very simply, you will enjoy it all in a super-warm atmosphere thanks to the spotless welcome.

Perched on high bar chairs, we taste a glass of “French Wine is not Dead”, some surprising white wine with a nice yellow dress and punk tag. To pair it, we choose on the menu (changing very regularly, depending on the produces of the moment), grilled squids with beetroot tartare and milk sauce as well as beef bourguignon Italian style. In both cases, we love it! Nothing very surprising as far as for food, but it is highly comforting and reminds us of the family Sunday lunches. We finish on a sweet note: chai tea-infused chocolate mousse, and lemon cream topped with candied clementines. So yummy!

If you simply crave something to nibble on, La Canonnière also serves hearty slices of cheese as well as many starters you can easily share. Furthermore, menus for €15 (starter-main course or main course-dessert) and €18 (starter-main course-dessert) are available for lunch.

Last but not least, note Mondays and Tuesdays are the occasion to welcomes chefs or winemakers for themed parties. For instance, “Abat les clichés” with chef Masahide Ikuta for a night dedicated to offal or even “Saucez n’est pas tromper” to rediscover sauce in all its shapes and sizes!

Here is a wonderful discovery we highly recommend!
